Opening
Hello everyone, I’m an addict and my name is [NAME].
Welcome to the [GROUP-NAME] group of Narcotics Anonymous.
Our meeting is for sharing the NA message.
The NA message is: “An addict, any addict can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live. Our message is hope and the promise of freedom.”
We will open this meeting with a moment of silence for the addict who still suffers, followed by the WE version of the Serenity Prayer.

God grant us the serenity, to accept the things we cannot change,
the courage to change the things we can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Clarity Statement
We are presented with a dilemma; when NA members identify themselves as alcoholics, dope fiends etc, instead of as addicts. Or when they talk about living sober instead of clean. This blurs the clarity of the NA message. To speak in this manner suggests that there are multiple diseases, that one drug is somehow separate from the rest, requiring special recognition.
Narcotics Anonymous makes no distinction between drugs.
Our identification as addicts is all-inclusive, which allows us to concentrate on our similarities, not our differences.
New Visitors
Is there anyone here attending their first NA meeting, or this meeting for the first time?
If so please raise your virtual hand so we can acknowledge you. This is not to embarrass you but only to get to know you.
